Skandia has appointed Shelley Robertson as international marketing manager. She will be responsible for the marketing of both Isle of Man-based Royal Skandia and Dublin-based Skandia Ireland.
Robertson was previously protection brand manager at Skandia. She has been caretaker marketing manager for Skandia Ireland since the departure of John Hudson in June. Nic Burton remains as marketing manager of Royal Skandia.
One of the Robertson's aims is to grow the proportion of international business at the Skandia group operated from the UK. International is currently between 30% and 33% of its total business, but Robertson wants this to increase to 40%.
She hopes to grow lump sum investment business and will promote the Isle of Man-based multi-manager funds of Skandia Investment Management.
"We want to offer advisers the flexibility of using self-select fund services, outsourcing fund selection to our multi-managers or having a mix of both," said Robertson.
Royal Skandia has reported strong Q3 sales figures. New business increased by 47% to £119m year on year.
Robertson, however, admitted that the former Eurolife business has made slow progress since the Dublin operation was acquired from Royal & SunAlliance last year. But she added that business will be helped by the regulatory change being imposed by the EU's Insurance Mediation Directive, which will be implemented on 15 January.
Under the directive, advisers will only be allowed to sell authorised insurance products. Robertson said that, in theory, intermediaries could only have sold regulated products in the past but "in practice it was not applied consistently across Europe."
