Forsyth Partners has launched an Asian Opportunities fund that will invest in a diversified portfolio of funds investing in the Asian region.
The fund will be managed on a fund-of-funds basis and aims to take advantage of the strengthening economic environments across Asia. The fund will invest across the Asia Pacific region, excluding Japan. Key markets will include China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea and India. The fund can also invest in Australia and New Zealand.
Peter Toogood, chief investment officer for Forsyth Partners, commented: "The Asian markets showed strong performance in 2003 and we believe there is a still lot of growth potential left in the region. A number of the larger economies, such as Taiwan and Thailand, are no longer emerging markets but are major economies. Growing political stability has enabled governments to drive through important structural changes that in turn, have boosted the domestic economies.
"Economic powerhouses such as China and India have not only lessened Asia"s reliance on the US for imports, but have started to eclipse the importance of Japan to the region. The combination of an improving global economic environment, strengthening domestic demand and political reform mean that the region continues to look attractive from both an economic and investment perspective."
Forsyth Partners has more than twelve years" experience of researching and rating funds in the Asian Pacific region and this expertise will be applied to the fund selection for the Forsyth Asian Opportunities Fund. Using both qualitative and quantitative techniques, Forsyth Partners" research model has established an enviable track record in identifying top performing funds in the region.
"We have a team of researchers who are dedicated exclusively to researching a universe of over 150 Asian funds, and we have been researching funds in this sector for over 12 years," says Toogood.
Forsyth Partners has total assets under management of $430m, of which $180m is in long-only funds of funds. The Forsyth group has total assets under management and administration, at 31 December 2003 of around $2.6bn, including advisory contracts.
Shares in the Forsyth Asian Opportunities Fund will be available in dollars. The minimum investment level is $10,000.
The initial charge is 1% on the fund and the annual management fee is 2.0%.
