What do you most admire about the financial advice industry?
"When it works well, the financial advice industry truly allows clients to realise their financial dreams and avoid the nightmares."
What do you most dislike about the industry?
"In too many cases, the lack of focus on client outcomes -because it leads to clients not having trust in the industry. There's still some way to go to see that trust fully restored."
What is the best thing anyone's ever said to you?
"You're not as dumb as you look! I was acting as a consultant to a bank, and the interviewee was taken aback with my knowledge of private banking. The ultimate outcome led to me marrying her!"
What is the best advice you ever received?
"Put your head above the parapet - because you never achieve change without making waves."
What is the worst advice you ever received?
"Put your head above the parapet - because sometimes the waves swamp you, occasionally you feel like you're drowning and occasionally it's easier to say and do nothing."
If you could tell your younger self one thing what would it be?
Try to keep your hair! On a more serious note....... always look at things from the other person's perspective.
Is this a good time to be in the financial services industry?
There has never been a better time, because we have everything to go for, we are in a very privileged position to help people, and - given the current environment - there has never been a more extreme need for advice.
