The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a warning to investors about an unauthorised firm it believes has been targeting people in the UK.
The business, the Emmett Ashford Group, gives its address as a location in Geneva, Switzerland.
However the FCA believes this firm has been providing financial services or products in the UK without authorisation.
Almost all firms and individuals offering, promoting or selling financial services or products in the UK have to be authorised by the FCA.
The FCA strongly advises investors to only deal with financial firms that are authorised, and to check the Financial Services Register to ensure they are.
If a firm does not appear on the Register but claims it does, the FCA urges people to contact its Consumer Helpline on 0800 111 6768. The regulator also wants people to report unauthorised firms.
Investors who give money to unauthorised firms are not be covered by the Financial Ombudsman Service or Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) if things go wrong.
