The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) has launched a new qualification for staff overseeing investment operations functions.
The two unit introductory qualification - QCF Level 3 Certificate in Investment Operations - satisfies the ‘appropriate qualification' requirements set by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for investment operations staff.
The course is also suitable for financial advisers seeking an insight into the operational delivery of investment products and services.
It offers flexible study routes starting with an introduction to the financial services market followed by practical insight into one of three areas of investment operations including collective investment scheme administration, individual savings account administration and investment client servicing.
CII director of financial services and insurance markets Steve Jenkins said: "The days when only front-line financial services sales staff needed qualifications are now a distant memory. Today the FCA expects staff of all levels and across all functions to demonstrate that they have the necessary skills to perform effectively.
"Ultimately, the CII's mission is to raise standards across financial services, and this new qualification is an excellent way of building and recognising expertise and professionalism among investment operations staff."
The certificate costs about £300 for PFS/CII members. First exams will be sat in September.
