Premier has hired former Framlington CIO Neil Birrell to run its £63m Alternative Strategies fund, after co-manager Raj Hallen exited the firm.
Hallen co-managed the fund since inception in December 2010, before leaving the group at the end of last year.
His co-manager Fred Fulcher has been taken off the fund, but will remain at the group.
Over the past year the fund has returned 14.8% in the IMA Specialist sector, according to Morningstar.
Birrell has 27 years of investment experience, including fund manager roles at Prolific Asset Management, Framlington Asset Management and most recently at Elcot Capital.
Mike O'Shea, Premier's chief executive, said: "At a time when Premier's products and performance are growing in recognition, Neil's appointment reaffirms our strategy to attract experienced investment talent to deliver consistent and compelling performance for clients."
