Skipton cuts 90 jobs

Skipton Building Society will cut 90 jobs as part of a shake-up of the business.

Most of the jobs are set to go from its head office in Skipton and a satellite centre, Prospect House in Scarborough, the BBC reports.  However, it also plans to create 20 new posts, mainly in customer services. Last week, Skipton, the UK's fourth largest building society, announced a sharp rise in its standard variable rate (SVR), from 3.50% to 4.95%, as part of a plan to ensure the society's ongoing financial strength.
