A new single tax department created by the merger of HM Customs and Excise and the Inland Revenue - as announced in this year's Budget - will have David Varney as its first executive chairman.
The Treasury says Varney will join the department on 1 September after leaving his current position as chairman on mobile phone company MmO2. Also joining the department on the same day will be Paul Gray as deputy chairman. Gray currently works as second permanent secretary pensions and disability at the DWP. IFAonline
