The FTSE closed at 6078.7p this afternoon after rising 14.5 points, or 0.24%.

British Energy Group rose 19.75 points, or 4.58%, to 451.25p. BHP Billiton rose 51 points, or 4.17%, to 1275p. Kazakhmys rose 45 points, or 4%, to 1170p. BAE Systms rose 14.5 points, or 3.48%, to 431p. Rio Tinto rose 96 points, or 3.22%, to 3078p. British Land fell 43 points, or 3.46%, to 1198p. Segro fell 14 points, or 2.66%, to 513p. Reed Elsevier fell 15.5 points, or 2.61%, to 578p. Standard Chartered fell 39 points, or 2.5%, to 1521p. Old Mutual fell 3.3 points, or 2.16%, to 149.4p.
