The FTSE rose 53.6 points, or 0.92%, to 5872.2p as Schroders rose 39 points, or 4.69%, to 870.5p after reporting a 35% rise in pre-tax profits in its annual results.
Kingfisher, the airline, rose 4.8 points, or 3.81%, to 130.8p Admiral Group fell 78.5 points, or 7.83%, to 7.83 points despite seeing profits rise 23% last year. Cable and Wireless fell 7.3 points, or 4.11%, to 170.1p as investors do not expect the telecommunications company to reveal a portfolio restructure today. The Dow Jones fell 7.49 points, or 0.06%, to 12258.9c yesterday afternoon as Boeing dropped 2.12 points, or 2.56%, to 80.67c after it lost a $40bn Air Force tanker contract.
