FTSE starts week on gains

The FTSE opened at 6321.2p this morning after climbing 17.9 points, or 0.28%.

Barclays rose 17.5 points, or 2.85%, to 631p. Standard Life rose six points, or 2%, to 306.25p. British Energy Group rose 9.25 points, or 2%, to 472.75p. ICAP rose 7.75 points, or 1.59%, to 495.75p. Royal Bank of Scotland Group rose nine points, or 1.57%, to 583.5p. BHP Billiton fell 13 points, or 0.89%, to 1446p. Rentokil fell 1.5 points, or 0.87%, to 171.7p. Associated British Foods fell four points, or 0.46%, to 859.5p. Centrica fell 1.75 points, or 0.45%, to 383.75p. HSBC fell four points, or 0.45%, to 893p.
