Shares in homebuilder Persimmon plunged 26p to 487.5p by the close of play on Thursday, helping take the FTSE into the red.
The index dropped 1.5 points, or 0.02%, to 6,068.1, while HBOS, down 16.75p to 414.25p and Wolseley also fell. Man Group, up 30.5p to 619p, Eurasian, up 71p to £14.81 and Vedanta Resources, were among the day’s top winners. In the US, traders enjoyed a successful morning after helping the Dow Jones climb 73.68 points, or 0.59%, to 12,667.71. JPMorgan Chase, up 1.12 points, or 2.61%, to 43.98, currently leads the day’s winners, followed by Citigroup, up 0.52 points, or 2.41%, to 22.12 and Johnson and Johnson.
