Standard Life has added eight new external funds to its life and pensions range, including propositions from Macquarie, Investec and JP Morgan.
It says the eight new additions will complement the existing fund range and meet demand from key customers, and it reveals as part of a strategic alliance with Macquarie, Standard Life will be the only life office to offer these funds on an insured basis until early 2008.
The eight new funds are:
- Macquarie Global Infrastructure Securities
- Macquarie Global Private Equity Securities
- Macquarie Global Property Securities
- Investec Global Free Enterprise
- JP Morgan Life Growth – available on pensions only
- Schroder UK Smaller Companies
- Standard Life Property Investment Life – available on bonds only
- UBS Targeted Return – available on pensions only
Graham Dow, head of investment development at Standard Life, says the enhancements to the company’s life and pensions range offers both advisers and clients even more diversity in investment options.
And he points out of particular interest are the funds available from both Macquarie Bank Group and the Schroder UK Smaller Companies Fund, as he claims Macquarie has a reputation for delivering innovative products and services in specialised areas which is shown in the Global Infrastructure Securities offering.
This fund invests in companies involved in the ownership and management of essential community assets such as airports, toll roads and utilities, but Standard Life points out although these types of businesses generally have sustainable and predictable cash-flows irrespective of economic conditions, there are currently no other infrastructure Open Ended Investment Companies (OEICs) marketed in the UK.
Neil Jones, division director at Macquarie Bank, says its approach in international markets is to enter business areas where it believes there is a real opportunity to create value for clients.
He adds: “Infrastructure's unique investment characteristics create a good match for long-term investors, and may be suitable for those seeking to produce long-term income combined with growth potential, and for investors who wish to further diversify an existing portfolio comprised of equity and bond assets."
And Trevor Matthews, chief executive of UK Life and Pensions at Standard Life, says: "I have a long personal history with Macquarie which goes back to our common Aussie origins. They are a high performing organisation which has continued to provide innovative investment solutions."
