Homebuilding firm Taylor Wimpey led the FTSE at the close of trading on Wednesday, helping the index climb 178.6 points to 6493.8.
The firm climbed 15.75p, or 8.4%, to 203.25p. It was followed by DSG International, up 6.6p to 115.5p, and RBS Group, up 26.5p to 465.75p. However, Northern Rock continued a difficult day, slipping 3p, or 2.91%, to 100p.
