The FTSE rose 0.09%, or 5.8 points, to 6207.8p this morning as Land Securities Group rose 5.47%, or 80 points, to 1542p.

Real estate investor Hammerson rose 5.41%, or 50.5 points, to 984p following news it will build a Marks & Spencer store in Leeds. Imperial Tobacco Group fell 2.96%, or 80 points, to 2626p while British American Tobacco fell 1.91%, or 38 points, to 1947p. The Dow Jones fell 1.92%, or 246.79 points, to 12606.3c. Alcoa rose 0.91%, or 0.29 points, to 31.73c following reports it may take over partner Alumina. Altria Group rose 0.25%, or 0.2 points, to 79.02c.
