Over 400 customer service and support staff in Belfast will transfer to Capita when it takes over sales and administration services for Prudential UK's life and pensions range.
The two companies have signed an outsourcing agreement which plans to build on Capita’s existing contract providing a full range of life and pensions administration services for Prudential’s International cross border business which has been in place since 2003.
Following a period of consultation over the future of Prudential’s Belfast based operations, it has been decided Capita will deliver end-to-end support for Prudential’s UK life and pensions operations.
And around 450 staff from Prudential’s customer services, PruDirect and support services operations will move to Capita in the early Autumn, while Capita also plans to take over the lease of Prudential’s premises at Clarendon Dock in Belfast.
This move will see the end of Prudential’s administrative operation in Belfast, which has been in place since 1987, although around 25 staff will remain as employees of Prudential, although they will be outsourced to Capita.
The operation in Northern Ireland currently handles a range of services including death claims, matured and surrendered policies and general UK customer support, alongside PruDirect, a direct to consumer telephone sales operation.
Nick Prettejohn, chief executive of Prudential UK, says: “This has been a very difficult time for all our staff in Belfast. This outsourcing agreement helps provide them with continued employment and enables us to maintain the highest standards of customer service while delivering the efficiencies and cost savings we announced earlier in the year.”
Paul Pindar, chief executive of Capita, adds; “The contract significantly expands our life and pensions business and reinforces our position as a leader in delivering outsourced solutions in this market.”
