In London, markets rose in early trading as investors react positively to news that one Bank of England boss voted to lower interest rates, and the FTSE 100 was up 6.6 points, or 0.1%, to 6,620.9.
ICAP shares made the biggest gains, up 20.5 points, or 3.95%, to 539.5p, followed by Morrison, which added 8.5 points, or 2.96%, to 295.5p. Tate & Lyle gained 11.25 points, or 2.66%, to 434p, International Power added 12.25 points, or 2.6%, to 484.25p, while Home Retail climbed 9.25 points, or 2.45%, to 386.25p. Rio Tinto shares slipped 106 points, or 2.4%, to £43.13, Vedanta lost 45 points, or 2.08%, to £21.20 and Anglo American fell 68 points, or 2.05%, to £32.52.
