FTSE has strong start to the week

The FTSE opened this morning at 6732p after climbing 15.3 points, or 0.23%.

Alliance & Leicester soared 42 points, or 3.74%, to 1166p. GlaxoSmithKline climbed 26 points, or 2.02%, to 1315p. Home Retail rose eight points, or 1.78%, to 458.25p. BT Group rose 5.5 points, or 1.67%, to 335.25p. British Airways rose seven points, or 1.59%, to 446.25p. Lonmin plummeted 326 points, or 7.62%, to 3952p. BG Group fell 14 points, or 1.6%, to 863.5p. Imperial Chemical Industries fell 9.5 points, or 1.5%, to 624.5p. 3i fell 13 points, or 1.11%, to 1163p. British Energy Group dropped six points, or 1.1%, to 537.5p.
