The benchmark FTSE 100 has so far gained about 13 points to 4,477 after UK stocks rose, led by Alliance Unichem and Bunzl.
Alliance Unichem, a traded drug wholesaler, rose 12.5p to 665p.
Bunzl, a maker of food packaging, added 10.25p to 470p.
Colt Telecom Group lost 22.25p, or 28%, to 58p. The telecommunications provider announced it may miss analysts' forecasts in the second quarter and the full year.
In Asia, Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index gained 37.14 points to 11,896.01 earlier today, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng remained unchanged at 12,285.75.
In the US, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index yesterday ended up 22.05 points at 10,435.48, despite the first interest rate increase by the Federal Reserve since the millenium. The S&P 500 index rose 4.64 points to 1,140.84.
