The FTSE 100 closed the week down 43 at 5,888 despite a rally by the banking sector which responded well to Lloyds TSB's results.
However, the retail sector was a drag on the index after a less than positive review from Landsbanki. Alliance & Leicester was the top performing stock up 30.50 at 510.00 while Vedanta Resources was the biggest faller down 123.00. Next and Marks & Spencer were also weak down 66.00 and 19.00 respectively. The US market had a disappointing opening with the Dow Jones falling 46 to 12,237 on fears of a recession in the world’s largest economy. IFAonline
