Pensioners who have not yet claimed from the Pension Credit scheme are being urged to do so, as the average payout to a new applicantis around £1,000.
Pension Minister Malcolm Wicks has urged people to add a call to the Pension Credit applications line to their Christmas 'to-do' list.
Wicks said in line with the year’s budget; Pension Credit applications can be updated for up to a maximum of 12 months if eligible.
“Many pensioners think they are not eligible for a variety reasons, but you can still get Pension Credit if you live with your family, receive financial support from them, receive housing benefit or own your own home,” says Wicks.
Pension Credit entitles those people aged 60 or over a minimum income of £105.45 a week for single people and £160.95 for couples.IFAonline
