Towergate Financial has appointed former John Charcol chairman Ian Darby as chief executive from 31 October 2008.
Darby spent 16 years at mortgage broker John Charcol from 1984 to 2000. Following the buyout from Bradford & Bingley in 2004, backed by Advantage Capital, he returned as chairman of the group between 2005-2007.
Prior to this, Darby worked at Bradford and Bingley in various executive roles from 2000-2005. This included two years as a PLC board director, responsible for group distribution activities, where he oversaw more than 800 IFAs specialising in mortgages.
Since 2006, Darby has also been a non-executive director at IFA network, Sesame and chairman of Home Funding Ltd.
Patrick Snowball, chairman at Towergate Financial, says Darby’s IFA, regulatory and marketing experience will be of great value to the business as it grows and takes advantage of current market opportunities.
