London market recovered after entering bear territory yesterday, with the FTSE 100 climbing 87.8 points (1.61%) to 5,528.3.
London Stock Exchange shares gained 69p (10.28%) to 740p, while Carphone Warehouse Group added 15p (7.83%) to 206.5p. John Wood Group shares dropped 11.5 points (2.56%) to 438.25p, while Imperial Tobacco lost 43 points (2.29%) to £18.38. The Dow Jones was down slightly in early trading after a shaky start on Wall Street markets, with the index falling 11.64 points (0.1%) to 11,372.57. Merck made the biggest gains after some heavy losses earlier in the week, up 0.82 (2.25%) to $37.80, while Pfizer added 0.3 (1.65%) to $18.49.
