Miners have helped drive the FTSE to a strong end to the week as the FTSE100 rises 1.09% to 6,414.80.
Antofagasta tops the table up 25.00 to 708.50 while Anglo American is up 84.00 to 2968.00.
Other stocks which boosted the FTSE included Punch Taverns (up 25.50 to 801.00) and Rolls-Royce which rose 16.00 to 526.00.
At the other end of the table, there was further gloomy news for Northern Rock which fell 1.90 to 90.10 as rumours abound it may be nationalized by the Government. Land Securities was another casualty, down 1.00 to 1441.00.
The FTSE was also helped by a strong close in the US market as the Dow Jones closed 28 higher at 13,245 thanks to strong late showing from technology stocks.
In Japan, the Nikkei 225 Stock Average rose 225.40 or 1.5% to 15,257.00 at the close of play buoyed by positive announcements from electronics companies Hitachi and Toshiba.IFAonline
