Halifax has announced the launch of a new legal services arm.
The lender intends to offer several new legal services with partners HammondsDirect, First Assist, Epoq and Capita supported by its own in-house team.
The launch of Halifax Legal Services follows on from the launch of its fixed fee conveyancing service in August 2005. Halifax Legal Solutions will provide access to legal products such as wills and expert legal advice.
Customers using the service will pay an annual membership fee of £89.00. Membership will give customers unlimited access to all services either online or via a dedicated telephone legal advice service staffed by a team of solicitors, barristers and other qualified professionals.
The move is believed to be the first of its kind by a financial services provider with Halifax hoping to take a slice of the £8bn UK legal services market admitting the market represents “a significant organic growth opportunity.”
Services accessed through Halifax Legal Solutions include:
- Will preparation, including updates
- 24 hour helpline providing legal advice
- A qualified legal team can review and approve all wills and documents prepared using the service
- An ID theft resolution service
- A searchable web based law guide
- Discounted conveyancing
Some services will be provided over the telephone including the provision of legal advice, ID theft resolution and will preparation.
Meanwhile a further 150 documents including tenancy agreements, powers of attorney and letters of complaint about faulty goods can be prepared by customers with the help of an online guide.
Customers will be able to get the documents reviewed by a qualified member of Halifax’s legal team, if required.
Joel Ripley, head of Halifax Legal Solutions, says: "Most people need legal advice at some point in their lives. Usually this is when they are moving home, making a will or dealing with a range of consumer issues. We are offering access to a range of straightforward solutions at a very good price."
Halifax Legal Solutions is available to customers and non-customers in England and Wales. The service can be accessed online at www.halifaxlegalsolutions.co.uk or by telephone on 0845 226 1111.
