Diageo is down 27.5p to 656p after sales of vodka fell.
Whitbread is down 29p to 787.5p after the owner of Travel Inn hotels reported earnings that fell short of analysts’ expectations.
British Airways is off by 2.75p to 222p after chief European competitor Air France reported strong growth in earnings and profit on growing passenger numbers.
BAE Systems is up 3.25p to 208.25p after analysts at Deutsche Bank raised their share price target.
Tesco has gained 1.5p to 265p, regaining some of yesterday’s losses sparked by analysts’ fears competition in the supermarket sector will continue to drive down prices of goods sold, impacting on profits.
Overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average index shed 5.46 points to 10,168.46, while the broader S&P 500 index gained 1.67 points to 1,105.91. Fears over earnings by Intel drove the Dow lower.
