New Star has announced the appointments of Simon Hillenbrand as UK retail sales managing director and Stephen Yiu to the UK Alpha Fund team.
Hillenbrand takes over the role after five years as regional sales director for London.
New Star Investment Funds managing director Mark Skinner says Hillenbrand’s experience has played an integral role in the launch and subsequent growth of New Star’s retail business.
“Simon is held in high regard not only at New Star but throughout the industry, having built close relationships with key clients over a number of years,” he says.
Mark Little will take over as London regional sales director.
Stephen Yiu has been recruited from Hargreaves Lansdown to work alongside the UK Alpha fund and UK Gemini Hedge fund manager Tim Steer.
Yiu has more than five years investment experience and was jointly responsible for £525m of funds at Hargreaves Lansdown.
New Star says Yiu’s arrival will enable Steer to extend the alpha and gemini fund’s scope as they increase in size.
“I believe the future of fund management will increasingly revolve around the use of quantitative screening tools and a focus on the quality of company accounts,” Steer says.
“Stephens’s arrival at New Star will help me continually evaluate current situations and specific companies in a more efficient manner, resulting in a quicker and more accurate decision-making process.”
