The FTSE fell 77.5 points, or 1.36%, to 5615.4 this morning as analysts' recommendations to sell led to losses for ITV , Vodafone and British Airways .
ITV fell 4.3 points, or 6.33%, to 63.6 while Vodafone fell 7.3 points, or 4.65%, to 149.7 and British Airways dropped nine points, or 3.75%, to 231. Friends Provident rose 4.6 points, or 3.83%, to 124.7 after the insurer rejected a £3.5bn takeover bid from US private equity firm JC Flowers. AstraZeneca fell 32 points, or 1.73%, to 1880 after the biosciences company said it would stop trials for its drug, Crestor, because of safety fears. The Dow Jones fell 86.06 points, or 0.7%, to 12216.4 on Friday’s close. American Express fell 1.68 points, or 3.75%, to 43.15 while General Motors drop...
