In London, the FTSE 100 rose in early trading, up 9.5 points, or 0.14%, to 6,722.2.
Unilever shares saw the biggest gains this morning, up 65 points, or 4.02%, to £16.81. Marks & Spencer shares climbed after news that the company had not performed as badly as expected, up 22 points, or 3.48%, to 654.5p, and Drax shares added 19 points, or 2.58%, to 756p. Tate & Lyle saw shares climb by 11 points, or 1.9%, to 591p, and Rolls-Royce gained 9.5 points, or 1.68%, to 574.5p. These gains were slightly offset by some losses including Standard Life, whose shares fell by 7 points, or 2.1%, to 325.75p.
