FTSE drops as world credit woes continue

In London, financial stocks continued to weigh down the markets and the FTSE 100 fell 33 points, or 0.52%, in early trading to 6,326.6.

British Energy Group shares made the biggest gains, up 8.75 points, or 1.78%, to 499.25p, followed by Morrison, which added 4.75 points, or 1.69%, to 285p. Sainsbury shares climbed 6.5 points, or 1.6%, to 411.75p, Nation Grid gained 10.5 points, or 1.34%, to 791.5p, while BHP Billiton jumped 21 points, or 1.31%, to £16.19. Compass Group lost 13 points, or 4.32%, to 288.25p, Alliance & Leicester shares slipped 24.5 points, or 3.78%, to 623.5p, while British Land Co shares fell 29 points, or 3.18%, to 883p.
