Antofagasta, the Chilean copper miner, gained 18p to 904p, reversing some of this week's losses. There are fears over the sustainability of current high commodities prices, while the Chilean government is giving mixed signals about royalty deals for mining in that country.
Royal & Sun Alliance led the insurers with a 1.25p rise to 80.25p.
