Sainsbury's sales propel FTSE

Reports of strong sales at Sainsbury's have seen the supermarket chain climb the FTSE winners table early on Thursday.

The index is marginally up, by 0.9p, or 0.1%, to 6,273.6, with Sainsbury’s climbing 14.5p to 379.5p. Kingfisher leads the winners table and Rexam and British Land have also made gains. Tui Travel, which has dropped 8.25p, or 3.77%, to 210.5, Rentokil and Man Group have also suffered losses. A strong day’s trading in the US saw the Dow Jones climb 146.24 points, or 1.16%, to 12,735.31 on Wednesday.
