In London, trading was mixed after the Bank of England kept rates on hold and Next announced good sales figures and the FTSE 100 gained 9.8 points (0.16%) to 6,270.8.
Kazakhmys shares made major gains, up 176 points (10.13%) to £19.14, while Sage Group added 15.5 points (7.35%) to 226.5 after reporting a 9% rise in profits. Carphone Warehouse shares lost 10.25p (3.43%) to 289p despite announcing a £1.1bn partnership deal, while British Energy Group 19 points (2.59%) to 715p. On Wall Street, markets climbed in early trading after Wal Mart posted good earnings figures and the Dow Jones added 52.03 (0.41%) to 12,866.38. Alcoa shares made the biggest gains, up 1.03 (2.7%) to $39.12, while Merck added 0.65 (1.65%) to $39.66. Home depot shares dropped 0.39...
