In London, market climbed on news of a potential takeover of HBOS banking group, with the FTSE 100 adding 85.8 points (1.6%) to 5,449.9.
HBOS added 44p (16.86%) to 305p after news a Spanish bank may make a takeover offer, while Friends Provident gained 10.5p (13.11%) to 90.6p. Ferrexpo shares dropped 12.25 (4.45%) to 263.25p, while Lonmin lost 93p (3.49%) to £25.69. On Wall Street, market fell on opening but quickly climbed, with the Dow Jones adding 31.83 points (0.27%) to 11,634.33. General Motors shares made a recovery after news oil prices are falling, up 1.46 (10.2%) to $15.78, while AIG gained 2.05 (7.29%) to $30.19.
