Jan Mantel, head of the UK and European equity team at Baring Asset Management (BAM), has left the company along with four analysts from his division.
BAM said Mantel's departure from the firm was by mutual consent and Simon Hallett, head of UK & European equity research at the group will take on the leadership of the team. Sarah Austin, who has been with BAM since 1993 will co-manage the section with Hallett.
BAM would not comment on who the four analysts leaving were or on the reasons behind their departure. Following the changes BAM has 25 fund managers and analysts covering the UK & Europe.
Mantel managed BAM's European Growth Trust, listed in the Europe ex-UK IMA sector, and co-managed its German Growth Trust with Sacha Hirsch who joined the company in early 2003. Both funds have underperformed against their sector average over both three and one year periods.
Prior to joining BAM in 2001 Mantel worked as a consultant on European pension reform with Merrill Lynch Investment Managers.
