Talking to IFAonline, the Association of British Insurers(ABI) welcomed the Financial Services Authority's proposed polarisation changes while describing the development by the financial regulator as "cautious".
Malcolm Tarling, spokesman for the ABI, said the association planned to scrutinise the details when they become available.
Tarling said: "We welcome the cautious approach. We would want to study in detail the changes when they come out on the 29 March.
"One we want to see full analysis of those changes to see how they impact on the wider review. When we see further changes we will look at those and judge those how they will improve choice and clarity for customers."
