The UK's biggest life firms to promote more efficient use of technology by intermediaries
Some of the largest life companies in the UK have formed a joint venture to run a series of free business technology conferences for intermediaries.
Backed by groups such as Standard Life, Scottish Equitable, Prudential and Norwich Union, the first of the conferences is to be held in Manchester in June.
The conferences are designed to encourage the uptake of technology in the financial advisory sector by demonstrating how it can improve the profitability of an intermediary firm.
The group of 18 life offices and technology companies have created a joint venture operation called Adviser.tech, which will run a series of free workshops. Adviser.tech will comprise four regional events in 2002, beginning with a launch event in Manchester in June.
The subsequent events will be held at the Royal Horticultural Halls in London, at the SECC in Scotland and at the NEC in Birmingham. The dates of these events have yet to be announced.
The events are open to all UK-based advisers, free of charge, with costs covered by the founding firms. Each has committed around £25,000 to the venture and all will exhibit at the conferences.
Stan Mack, marketing technology delivery manager at Scottish Equitable, said: 'Adviser.tech has been founded to fulfil an important need in the intermediary community: to help advisers appreciate the role of technology in their businesses and to offer training and education on relevant technology solutions.
'The new event aims to incorporate all IFA aggregators/portals, life and investment companies and other essential service and product providers with technology offerings.
'All will be encouraged to contribute by demonstrating their technology products to Adviser.tech delegates and educating them on the relevant issues. For the very first time, intermediaries will be able to view all of the technology offerings in one place and see how technology can be of mutual benefit.'
A full program of presentations and keynote speeches will be provided at each of the four Adviser.tech events, with industry speakers and expert panels selected from the financial services and technology industries.
Subjects covered will include online business and portal technology and the role of portals pre and post CP 121. Back-office, point of sale and integrated desktop solutions for advisers will also be covered.
