Mercer Human Resource Consulting has confirmed its commitment to local authority pension funds following the announcement that Watson Wyatt is to withdraw from providing actuarial services to this market. Mercer has a specialist consulting team that provides actuarial and investment services to 26 local authority funds. Bruce Rigby, head of retirement consulting at Mercer, said: 'Local authorities face some difficult challenges ahead. Mercer is well placed to advise them on issues such as how to manage their pension scheme budgets.'
The increase in minimum AE contributions has had little impact on opt-out rates - with cessations after April increasing by less than two percentage points, data from The Pensions Regulator (TPR) shows.
