Total net sterling lending increased by an underlying £14.8bn to £866bn in September, the latest figures from the Major British Banking Groups report. September saw an underlying rise of £6.2bn in lending to individuals, while mortgage lending, after allowing for a securitisation, rose by £5bn, slightly more than August's rise of £4.8bn and the average of £4.6bn over the previous six months.
