Small businesses are the biggest users of online banking, according to user traffic at Abbey National, who has just launched a finance website aimed specifically at small business customers.
Nearly 30% of Abbey's business customers bank online which is double the national average, says the firm, so www.anbusiness.com has been designed to provide its clients with all the information and tools they need to run a business on a daily basis, from writing a business plan to managing human resources.
The site has also been created to draw users who are not Abbey customers with a section offering hints and tips of running a business, as well as a business grant search facility which enables companies to seek out some of the millions of pounds of support and loans offered by organisations and the EU.
These ideas were added to the website after Abbey National business undertook extensive research among financial website users to discover what they like - and hate - about e banking.
Gary Hockey-Morley, managing director of Abbey National business, explains:
"Two of the biggest problems facing small businesses are lack of time and lack of advice. Our new website addresses both these problems - an easy to use banking service, and jargon-free advice based on a company's needs, rather than products on offer."
The home page has been designed so it takes no more than 20 seconds to load and subsequent pages no more than 6 seconds.
Some of the issues the website addresses include cash flow management, commercial mortgages and financing assets.
