The Association of Investment Trust Companies (AITC) has published online statistics on total expense ratios that it says should help investors make better informed investment decisions when buying into investment trusts.
The AITC has also published a guide to explain investment trust charges
Total expense ratios (TERs) measure the annual management charge and other expenses, including auditors' and custody fees, directors' remuneration, marketing and promotion costs and secretarial costs.
They do not, however, include dealing charges, market spread or stamp duty.
The AITC says that with future investment returns from collective investment schemes being screwed down to single digit figures, it will become more important than ever for investors to take into account TERs and the actual post-tax return.
Further information on TERs is available at www.itsonline.co.uk
