The Chancellor has indicated that he expects the UK economy is to grow by 2%- 2.5% this year and by 3%- 3.5% in 2003, before returning to trend in 2004. Growth is also expected to become more balanced while inflation is forecast to remain low and close to the Government's target of 2.5% for the 12-month increase in the RPI excluding mortgage interest payments.
