Prudential Annuities is offering enhanced rate pension annuities to those close to retirement or in ill health.
This option was made available from 10 January 2001 on all of the Prudential's current annuity products, including the Prudential With-Profits Annuity.
The enhanced rates will be available to customers with a purchase price above £20,000, after tax-free cash, with a variety of medical conditions. These could include heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, stroke, chronic asthma or bronchitis.
This annuity is available to qualifying individuals, regardless of where they have saved their pension fund. It will accept funds from personal pension plans, retirement annuity contracts and money purchase occupational pension schemes, including EPPs and SSASs.
Kim Lerche-Thomson, the chief executive of Prudential Intermediary Business, said: "Many people approaching retirement and in ill health don't realise that they could qualify for an enhanced annuity. They could be boosting their retirement income by 5% or 10%, or even more depending on their circumstances. As many as 20% of retiring annuity customers may benefit."
