Barclays Global Investors is to launch FTSE 250 and Sterling Bond exchange-traded funds (ETFs) under its iShares offshore platform over the next six months. Meanwhile, its range of nine sector funds will close. Lee Kranefuss, iShares director, said sector funds have proven unpopular with European buyers of ETFs. The funds to close are iFTSE TMT, FTSE European Technology, FTSE European Media, FTSE European Banks, FTSE European Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology, FTSE European Utilities, FTSE European Consumer Cyclicals, FTSE European Consumer Non-Cyclicals and FTSE European Oil and Gas.
