The ABI says greater transparency is needed to give policy holders more confidence that their interests are being handled correctly.
The ABI saus it supports proposals for the introduction of a policyholder advocate, who would ensure that interests of all policy holders are taken into account before estates are distributed.
"We welcome this further step in the review of with profits," the ABI's head of life insurance and pensions Alan Woods says.
"While there ar already safeguards to ensure that policy holders are treated fairly in the handling of inherited estates, ABI backs further steps to ensure that policy holders have full confidence in the process."
