Vosper Thornycroft has won a £60m contract to build three offshore patrol vessels for the Royal Navy. The deal is thought to be worth £60m to Vosper, the UK's second largest warship builder, and will provide work for 1,000. The company is fighting a vigorous campaign to win a contract to a build several of the navy's new Type 45 destroyers. The government is to commission 12 ships, but BAE Systems is keen to build all the warships itself.
