Old Mutual has appointed two research analysts to enhance its mid and small-cap research capability, working alongside Ashton Bradbury.
Richard Watts joins the group from Orbis where he worked as an equity analyst and Gavin Scott joins from Cazenove where he was an assistant fund manager.
Old Mutual sees mid and small caps as key areas in terms of its product offering to the intermediary community. The UK Select Mid Cap and UK Select Smaller Companies funds are both managed by Bradbury and have both outperformed their benchmarks since launch.
From launch to 30 November this year, the UK Select Mid Cap Fund basis has fallen 5.12% on an offer-to-offer basis, compared to a fall of 18.38% in the FTSE 250 Index and a sector average return of -15.97%, ranking it six out of 296 funds in the sector.
Similarly, the UK Select Smaller Companies fund has returned -3.2% compared to its benchmark the Hoare Govett Smaller Companies Index, which registered a fall of 34%, and the sector average decline of 40.5%, ranking it second out of 67 smaller companies funds.
