Gerrard chief economist Simon Rubinsohn believes pricing power may be returning to UK manufacturers but there remains little scope for a meaningful upturn in profits in the sector. Rubinsohn said although output prices were unchanged in October, the year-on-year rate of increase edged up to 0.6%. 'This is the biggest annual gain since May 2001,' he said. 'Meanwhile, the core measure, which excludes food beverages, tobacco and petroleum, rose by 0.2%, taking the 12-month increase to 0.7%.'
