M&G, which had previously dominated Best Investment's Spot the Dog list of poor performing funds, is starting to make a comeback by reducing the number of portfolios remaining on the tables. In compiling the list, Best Investment identifies funds that underperform their benchmark index in each of the past three years. This group is then filtered to identify funds where underperformance over the total three-year period was higher than 10. During 1997 M&G had nine UK-based funds on the list.
