Basic salaries for broker consultants are averaging around £25,000 across England and Wales, according to a survey by financial services headhunters Paul Harper Search & Selection.
The poll covered 405 broker consultants which Paul Harper Search & Selection estimates represents 20% of the broker consultants in England and Wales.
It found that the average basic salary for a broker in Central London is £27,230 while the average for those on the South Coast is £23,650, which the company said is likely to reflect consultants' willingness to compromise salary for a better lifestyle.
More variation was found in the level of total salaries, which range from £46,210 a year in the West Midlands to £75,440 in Central London. The survey found most of the highest earners are based in Central London where 27% of respondents earned over £100,000 compared with 1% elsewhere.
Paul Harper, founding director of Paul Harper Search & Selection, said: "This report demonstrates that companies still value the service that broker consultants offer and provides a useful insight into how rates of pay vary by ability and region."
The poll also found broker consultancy is dominated by the young with 77% of consultants being under 40 years of age while 50% are less than 34.
In Central London around 14% of consultants are over 40.
